CHOICE Consortium meets up in Ankara for the 5th Transnational Meeting

From October 2nd, for two days, the CHOICE project Consortium has gathered in Ankara, Türkiye, for the 5th and last Transnational Meeting. This time, the goal of the meeting was to recap the Multiplier Events that each school has organised and check the status of the work until the end of the project, which will be on November 2023.

Project Coordinator Deep Blue gave an overview of the status of the project and what was achieved so far: all partner schools have conducted and finalised their pilots successfully, engaging not only their students, but also involving their families and communities through the students themselves. Furthermore, many schools not only conducted the pilots, but also organised activities to have a greater impact on their local communities, not limiting their action to the families of their students. For instance, the 16th Dimotiko Larissas school, based in Larissa, Greece, held beach cleaning activity in Agiokampos, on the Aegean coast, involving students and their families, together with a gathering of e-waste, such as old computer, smartphones and IT devices. The activity was aimed to sensitise citizens on how to properly recycle e-waste and old electronic appliances.

Each partner school took turns in presenting their pilots and Multiplier Events in great detail, highlighting the feedback received from their students who actively participate in the pilot activities, but also the positive response from teachers and educators. This is also proven by the participation in the CHOICE Multiplier Events, which were held by all partners in their countries.

The Consortium also discussed the final step of the project, which is coming to an end on November. Deep Blue is organising the CHOICE Final Conference, which will be held on October 31st in Rome, in collaboration with Istituto Bilingue „Vincenzo Pallotti of Ostia. The event will present to teacher, educators, local administration for education representatives, environmental NGOs and other stakeholders, the main results of CHOICE: the CHOICE eLearning Platform, the Educational Paths and EcoCHOICE, the online serious game developed to teach while entertaining some basics of environmental science.

The call for more awareness on climate change and the environment is an increasingly focal topic in many EU countries, and the need to integrate knowledge on climate and environmental protection in youth education is more important than ever. In fact, as CHOICE is aware, one of the ways to fight the advancing environmental degradation and rising temperatures everywhere is to act jointly and cut emissions wherever is possible. By giving young students the necessary knowledge to contribute in their daily lives to curb emissions and mitigate their impact. This grassroot push for a more sustainable lifestyle is key to change our perspective on the topic and also to move towards a more aware and involved fight against climate change.
