The event for Teaching Green Skills to students, by the DAISSy Research Group, was a success!
The DAISSy Research Team successfully organised the informative event on „Towards a Green Culture at Urban Level: Teaching Green Skills to Students„, which took place live on Friday, September 22, 2023, in Patras („My Way” hotel).
The aim of the event was to disseminate the results of the „CHOICE” project, funded by Erasmus+. As CHOICE partners, DAISSy Research Team participate through ITYE DIOFANTOS as a partner in Greece, and marks the completion of the project’s activities.
The CHOICE project aims to support the development of civic competences in primary and secondary school students, enabling them to contribute to the fight against climate change by adopting sustainable behaviours.
The event was addressed to students, students, teachers, teachers of Secondary and Primary Education, Local bodies, Universities, Education Institutes and had a great impact, attracting the participation of more than 40 people from the target groups and the areas of interest of the project.
The event started with a greeting from Christos Pierrakeas, Professor of the University of Patras, Deputy Director of DAISSy, who presented the actions of the Research Group, emphasizing the vision and mission of the team int he context of the CHOICE project.
Afterwards, Vyron Damasiotis, DAISSy Researcher, presented the CHOICE project, analysing its actions, goals and results, as well as the more specific role of the Research Team. It was highlighted that CTI greatly contributed to the identification of the needed skills and abilities that would allow young citizens to contribute positively to addressing the problem of climate change. Furthermore, CTI also greatly supported and contributed to the development of relevant educational material, and specifically designed educational material for students on the subject of strengthening of Green IT actions. In addition, CTI was responsible for the development and maintenance of the project’s asynchronous education platform. In this context, the six day-long Train the Trainers event, organised by DAISSy in Larissa, Greece, at the University of Thessaly, was also analysed, giving the opportunity to present, apply and evaluate the CHOICE educational material for the training of trainers, to a total of nineteen teachers, as part of the main target groups of the project.
The speeches were continued by Educators from Secondary Education schools of the Regional Units of Achaia and Ilia, who presented good practices to contrast climate change.
Emphasis was placed on the interconnection of „CHOICE” with the European projects GoodDeeds and Agile2Learn, with related interrelated objects, which are also in the phase of implementation by DAISSy as a partner, and which were presented by the relevant Researchers of DAISSy, analysing the content.
The event concluded with a reflection of the action and a fruitful discussion as well as the ways of motivating teachers and students to adopt sustainable behaviours. The atmosphere was pleasant and the comments positive, for the implementation of such projects and the willingness to actively participate in future initiatives of this kind.
